Hey! This is not too difficult to answer. Well, if you can’t guess, no worries. The person I am talking about is none other than the famed quiz show Jeopardy’s host, Alex Trebek.

Yes right!

Didn’t you ever notice the flamboyant mentioning of Alex about his native place Canada, in most of the show’s episodes?

He indeed takes pride in flaunting the fact that he hails from Canada.

And another fact that not many know about him is that he owns a degree in Philosophy from the University of Ottawa.

Allan, with the support of Trek and Michaëlle Jean, has planned to open up wings of his University a bit more, by launching the Centre for Global and Community Engagement.

Now ask me what is it all about?

Well, under the new strategic plan taken up by the University, Destination 20/20, the students and faculty of the University, will be proffered with prospects to get engaged with various volunteer opportunities, both at home and abroad.

Won’t that be a great deal?

And the eye-catching factor is the annual budget of this project. Can you guess how much that would be?

It is a whopping sum of $800,000.

And the cherry on the top is that the host of jeopardy, Alex has nodded to fund an amazing sum of upto $100,000, and that too, for about three years.

I guess Alex has earned really well by hosting Jeopardy episodes. Well, we just hope this initiation does really well in the future and brightens up the careers of the students even more.

The biggest question on everyone’s mind, as Brad stepped up with that trademark confident and poised look, was whether he really thought that he stood a chance at this.

Brad refers back to the time, when he was paired up against Ken Jennings, who had become a household name, after he seemed impossible to defeat on the show.

Recalling the moment, when he chose to battle against Ken, he says that even then, he believed that someone had to secure this win, so why couldn’t it be him.

He proved that impossible was possible, in that episode, by outing Ken and taking over the title of America’s smartest man.

When he walked in to compete against the IBM machine, he was driven by the exact same attitude.

Moreover, the fact that he had won against ‘Watson’, which was the name of the computer, in the practice rounds, made him all the more confident.

In retrospect, he says that it is possible that the show’s producers were not using him to the best of his ability at the time, which is why both Ken and Brad won over him in those rounds.

Whatever might have been the case, the episode was a great idea, and made for one of Jeopardy’s highest rated episodes!

I mean, I remember the time when I used to sit besides my grandfather while he used to watch this game show.

I used to take pride in the fact that my grandfather thought I am inclined to learn new things, and so I never missed to sit with him while watching the show.

The series premiered in the year 1964 with the mastermind Merv Griffin at its helm.

It first aired on March 30, 1964 on NBC Network, and perhaps the creator of this wonderful series had no idea that the series would go on to become one of the most popular game shows in history, and would continue to air for decades.

Whoa!

Had Merv ever dreamt of reaching such a zenith, he would have been really proud of making his dream come true.

Jeopardy, along with being immensely entertaining, is also a great source of alleviating one’s knowledge, as the show touches upon different categories like – World History, World Origins, Literature, Geography, Pop culture, Science, Sports, and many more.

Wow!

I miss my old days, but thankfully I don’t really have to miss the show, since it is still being broadcast with the same vigor as in the yesteryears.

It has always been fun, challenging myself with the quiz round after round, and feeling the exhilarating victory if I ever happened to hit the right answers.

The feeling was almost the same as that of the actual winner on the show, except of course, he got the money, while I watched on empty-handed. LOL!

Even though I no longer intend to challenge myself with the quiz show the way I used to a long time back, but at least I haven’t lost my interest in the series even after years of watching it.

Such is the spell of the mesmerizing show, that I would continue watching Jeopardy episodes for as long as it continues.

The buzz that was doing rounds was not just that Alex had ruptured a tendon and recovered a bracelet and some cash, but also that he sleeps in the nude.

Now, one may wonder where on earth that cropped up from.

Well, Alex’s statement about “putting on his underwear” and chasing after the woman is responsible for the entire controversy. More than a month later, as Alex recovered from theoperation that he had to undergo, the question is finally popped before him- Do you sleep in the nude?

Alex immediately clears the air off the controversy, saying that he does not. So where did the underwear statement come in from? No matter how personal it might be, the 71-year old makes no qualms for being completely candid about that particular night.

He explains that he was sleeping with a t-shirt on, and had taken off his bottoms because of an injury that he had sustained on his left knee around a year ago, which caused immense pain when it came in contact with his pyjamas.

Well, we guess we’ll buy that story out of sympathy and respect for the man we so love!

But to put it in the words of the co-host of NBC’s Today Show, Matt Lauer, we hope that he recovers, though we really didn’t need to know that he sleeps in the nude.

After the entire controversy, it seems that the ‘Jeopardy!’ host will be a lot more careful with his words, the next time around.

Jennings, who has previously written a book by the title ‘Brainiac’, has once again taken on the task of expressing his thoughts in words, this time with a book entitled ‘Maphead: Charting the Wide, Weird World of Geography Wonks’.

The book chronicles Jennings’ experiences with maps as a child.

He reveals that he developed a love for maps at a very early age, and was obsessed with them to the extent that he would sleep with a copy of Hammond’s Medallion World Atlas next to him!

He recalls considering his National Geographic maps of the month to be sacred!

For Jennings, maps, geographical terrains, directions, and measuring systems were always a matter of sheer delight. As a kid, Jennings recalls having the Australian capitals on the tips of his fingers. Now that he is one of the most successful game show participants in the country, he keeps his love for maps alive with his passion for games and ultra-cool mapping technologies.

Does he think that these new-age technological breakthroughs are incapacitating the coming generations from being able to read maps?

Host cum crime-buster Alex Trebek was fast asleep (naked) in his hotel room in San Francisco, when at 2.30 a.m. he suddenly woke up, after hearing some noise and found a woman stealing his stuff!

He grabbed his underwear and ran after her in the hallway and in the process fell, snapping his Achilles tendon and bruising his other leg too.

Alex Trebek was actually in double jeopardy!

A 56-year old woman, identified as Lucinda Moyers, was immediately arrested from the crime scene on suspicion of burglary.

Alex’s arm bracelet, which his mother gave him 20 years ago, was missing from the scene. He reported that apart from the priceless bracelet, some cash was also missing.

According to the latest reports, the attorney of Lucinda Moyers claimed that his client was in the hotel as a prostitute and not a thief! The attorney further added that the police arrested the wrong person in the Alex Trebek burglary case.

Now, I have no idea how the prostitute episode suddenly came up!

But what I know is that you, Mr. Alex Trebek are a hero for me.

All hail Alex! Kudos to your steely determination – in spite of the injury, you hosted the show.

On July 8, Tony grabbed an amount of $21,601!

Whoa! That is awesome!

Congratulations kiddy! I am sure you deserve it!

Though Tony had to wait for a long time on the sets, he simply went ecstatic when he was finally called on the stage.

According to his mother and sisters, Tony was a bit apprehensive, but he just did not look nervous once he reached the stage.

Well, obviously he would have been nervous initially. After all, the platform of Jeopardy isn’t any thingamabob.

One needs intelligence and correct timing to compete on the show.

And luckily, Tony didn’t lack any of them!

And the result was in front of all the viewers. He left one and all present there awestruck. Throughout the show, he maintained a lead over other contestants, and he looked like a winner right from the beginning.

But the most interesting thing was the final question that Tony found fairly easy to deal with. Unlike most contestants, Tony was well at ease when the last question came out.

Overall, it was an apt start to the whole kids’ week season.

By the way, it’s not a new thing for the show’s viewers to have fun while they watch the series.

What made me come to the conclusion is the fact that Craig recently shot a film with a budget of a mere 50 pounds!

Titled ‘Banker’, this paltry sum was the only currency that had to be shelled out to remunerate the actor who was a part of the film.

Tune-in to Jeopardy episodes and have a tête-à-tête with Harry Hastings, a part played by Craig Moncur, who might not be so popular in schools but is a well-wisher of his entire troupe that is set on a look-out for UFOs.

It was simply a four-day course in filmmaking that inspired the actor to try his hands at directing, and guess what, he has hit bull’s eye with his very first shot!

The film boasts of as many as 1,20,000 hits on the internet within a duration of just two months, as well as a screening at the prestigious Myrtie Beach International Film Festival.

Now this certainly gives Mr. Moncur a cause for elation, since his film stands against movies with budget as huge as 100,000 pounds.

Well, Craig has given a subtle yet strong contention that the money going into the making of a film does not matter. What matters is the underlying premise on which the plot is based.

Lesson for all Hollywood honchos; give it an ear for your sake!

That’s right! The 2002 graduate from Austin High School applied for contesting the quiz show way back in February 2009, and successfully toppled the initial hurdle of answering 50 questions.

While expressing his feeling about the show, the technical support specialist for Medtronic, Matt said that it was pretty incredible.

Well not just Matt, any guy, who would get to see himself appearing on his favorite show, wouldn’t believe his eyes.

Quite interestingly, he reported to show runners after a gap of more than 18 months since his initial selection. If I am not wrong, had there been a delay of some more months on his part, he would have been disqualified from appearing in the show.

I guess, right now he must be feeling the pressure of being grilled in front of the camera. Will he be able to hold on to his nerves?  I think the only way for him to cut down on some pressure would be to think about his childhood frenzy of participating in the show.

Even though Matt has the upper hand in subjects like history, politics and international affairs, it will be interesting to witness how he copes up with his weakness in literature and drama.
