Trebek was born in the house of George Edward Trebek (Ukrainian – Canadian immigrant) and Lucille (Franco – Ontarian). He attended a Jesuit school and followed by graduating in 1958 from Toronto’s Malvern Collegiate Institute and even bagged later a degree in philosophy from the University of Ottawa.

He began his career as a sports and news caster with the CBC.

Trebek also at one point of time went for about two months to Collège Militaire Royal de Saint-Jean, in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu (Quebec, Canada).

Trebek starting hosting shows in 1964 with Reach for the Top, followed by Jackpot! (1970); The Wizards of Odds (1973, as he moved to the United States); High Rollers (1974-76 and 1978-80, then again 1975-76); Double Dare(1976–1977); The $128,000 Question (1977); High Rollers (1974–1976, 1978–1980); Battlestars(1981); Pitfall(1981–1982) ; The New Battlestars; Malcolm (1983); Lucky Numbers; Classic Concentration (1987); To Tell The Truth (1991), etc.

His most famous work however was as the host of Jeopardy with which he has been associated till date since 1984. He created history by becoming the first man to host three American game shows simultaneously on 4th Feb, 1981

After getting divorce from his first wife Elaine Callei, he married Jean from whom he has two children (Matthew and Emily). He resides in Studio City (California), and is now a naturalized citizen of the United States since 1998.

He used to own and manage a 700 acre ranch (Creston Farms) near Paso Robles in Creston where he bred and trained many thoroughbred race horses.

He is the winner of five Emmy Awards for Outstanding Game Show Host, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Alex is also involved in number of charitable organizations working in the field of education. He also hosts The Great Canadian Geography Challenge in Canada and the annual National Geographic Bee in the U.S. He also very active with the World Vision charitable organization for which he has journeyed to many countries to raise awareness.

He is also a recipient of a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame.
